Dragonfly

This was one of the early paintings I did from a Let’s Make Art tutorial. I completed the body of the dragonfly following the instructions. But when it came time to paint the wings, I kept thinking of the beautiful orange dragonflies that we had seen in Escondido at the Wild Animal Park when Chad and I had gone down for Devon’s high school graduation.

Chad was utterly entranced by them and took pictures of the ones we could get close enough to. So I decided to paint these wings a soft orange. If I do this tutorial again, the whole dragonfly will be done using one of his photos for color reference.
