A Heavy Topic
As you can see, I love picking up heavy things. I would never have imagined a decade ago that I would be able to do this, let alone enjoy it. But I love the feeling I get when I have been working for weeks on a lift, everything comes together one day, and it happens. I hit a personal record (PR) and get to write a new number on my line of the PR board.
[Hey, before you scroll down and lose sight of the picture, check out the calves on that man! That was my sweetie and his calves were the same size as my thighs. The thighs under those long shorts were crazy huge but you’ll just have to take my word for that one. I loved those legs!!]
Due to the pandemic, I can’t get to the gym to pick up heavy things right now and I miss it. I also miss my CrossFit family although a lot of us are active on FaceBook and some of us text and email to keep in touch.
Although I have Chad’s 62-pound kettlebell to help keep me in shape – along with a few smaller weights and resistance bands – I still know that the first few workouts back at the gym are going to be scaled down (and probably still very hard) until I can regain some muscle.
I have been working on staying active, doing my two workouts a week, and doing squats (weighted or just body weight), step-ups or stair jumps, push-ups, lots of walking, dead bugs (my current favorite core exercise) and handstand practice to keep from sitting for long spells at work or at home.
My office is deserted – it’s just me about 90% of the time – so I don’t get caught mid-push-up very often. Every once in a while, my timer goes off when I am in a Zoom meeting, but I haven’t had the nerve to get up and do my exercises during the meeting yet. It seems rude and I already have a reputation for being a bit odd. So I just re-set the timer and do something right after the meeting breaks up. For now…
